Some of you may have noticed the site was down for most of the day today and that was due to Jace and I did some system administration work.
It all started when I went downstairs to my office and noticed one of my server books was missing off the shelf. I went searching high and low and I found it in Jace’s room.
He and I had a discussion why he had the book. He said he wanted to upgrade the server from Server 2000 to Server 2003 as well as doing an uplift on the Journal from ASP 1.0 to ASP.NET technology. How could I disagree with him. He made all the right points why it needed to be done.
It was a long process. We started out by doing the uplift on the site. Once we had it the way we wanted we did a backup of the files and shut down the server. We formatted the drive, installed Server 2003 and put all the lovely Microsoft patches on it. Once that was done we got the Internet Services up and running and got the site back up.
There are some better security features with the Journal and we now require you to register with the site in order to post comments. Unfortunately we were not able to retain the past comments and we apologize for that. Feel free to register and repost if you like. There are some other nice features with it as well but Jace said not to bore everyone with the details.
Since Jace’s spelling and typing are not too good right now he drove the mouse and made sure everything was done according to the book he had snuck out of the office.

Amy and I have talked about the site and we both agreed that we would like our family and friends to have the ability to comment on the posts we make. We both felt this would make the site a little more interactive for family and friends.
I did some searching for a site engine that uses ASP and I found one that offers what Amy and I were looking for that only needed a few minor tweaks.
Last night I upgraded the site engine and imported the data in to a new database since the old and new were not compatible and finally I was able to get the site up and running around 11:00pm.
Jace was my helper for the project and he did a good job auditing what I was doing but he didn’t think I was pressing the right keys at times and thought he would help me out. We discussed the changes he was making and why it would not work and that he did a good job trying.
We all hope you enjoy the new site and hope to hear from you soon.

Jace got to come hom around 2pm yesterday (Jan 25) since the doctor said there was no reason for him to stay another night. The doctor said Jace passed his hearing test and is doing extremely well.
Grandma and Grandpa Gutgsell came over to visit and got him a bassinet. He is getting his use out of it right now. Carrie and the kids came over to visit him as well and brought him some diapers and a little outfit. We want to say thanks to those who have gotten him things so far.
He kept mommy up pretty much most of last night. She was a trooper about it and let me sleep since I was exhausted and could not get to crash for an hour to recharge my batteries like she did earlier in the day when we got home with him.
I just thought I would make a quick post to give his update and we will post more later today. He is going to have a busy day today since he has to go back to the hospital for his 48 hour tests and he is getting his pictures taken as well as he gets circumsized.
We will post more a little later today. Who knows.. maybe mommy will take some more pics to be posted.

I got this in an email from Uncle Ron and we thought it was cute enough to deserve a special spot on our site.
